Role Purpose

  • Provide professional leadership and advice on all HR matters for Bangladesh, with responsibility for country and UK appointed staff as well as contract consultants
  • Lead and be accountable for the performance of the national HR team across Bangladesh.
  • Ensure that all HR strategies, policies and operations are aligned with corporate policy, local legal requirements,  market practice and that they support the operational delivery of all Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and support teams
  • To ensure that the HR function is working as a strategic partner with businesses and helping them to achieve their business objectives.
  • The role acts as an adviser/business partner to country leadership, HR and business leads; interfaces with English, Education & Society and Arts Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and HR Centre of Expertise (CoE) colleagues to deliver corporate, regional and country results.

 

Main Accountabilities:

 

1. Consultancy and HR service

  • Deploy a range of HR specialist or bespoke approaches to support the provision of services and advice
  • Lead and co-ordinate the annual people cycle, for performance management, talent management, succession planning, learning and development etc, engaging and communicating with key stakeholders to deliver in line with British Council timelines, policies and processes
  • Provide HR operations and ER support/advice on all people matters, ensuring service is delivered to maximise performance and minimise risks and costs
  • In conjunction with Country Leadership Team, manage emergency planning and contingency and execute on withdrawal policy and procedures
  • Scope, plan, deliver and evaluate HR/OD and change projects/initiatives, working closely with regional CoE leads as required
  • Support, and when needed, manage and handle casework related to HR and disciplinary matters including handling complex and often sensitive personnel matters
  • Work with the wider regional HR team and Regional HR Business Partner in order to ensure consistency and compliance to regional HR standards as well as to ensure that strategic support is provided at a regional level as and when needed

 

2. Leadership and business partnering - Internal customer focus

  • As a member of the Bangladesh Leadership Team, contribute to the delivery of the country plan through the HR strategy, budgets and people plans - sharing expertise and learning and ensuring an integrated approach to delivering high impact HR advice and quality service delivery in country
  • Build an in-depth understanding of the particular operational context, opportunities and challenges facing operations and management, to ensure the development of new policies and practices based on informed business insight and joined-up thinking
  • Consult closely with internal customers and to understand current and future business needs, and plan work activities accordingly to ensure the services and advice provided meets those demands
  • Provide expert HR advice, support and challenge to internal customers and other stakeholders to support the development of high quality, effective and continuously improving business practices within their area of expertise, ensuring service is delivered to maximise performance and minimise risks and costs

 

3. Line management and functional expertise

  • Provide formal line management to the in-country HR team
  • Provide professional coaching/mentoring/guidance to internal customers and HR colleagues, to manage non-routine HR issues or guidance to implement project and change plans

 

And will have the following skills and experience:

At least 8 (eight) years’ work experience in similar role

Excellent communication skills both in Bangla and in English

Master’s degree in  Human Resources or relevant professional HR qualification

Strong knowledge in all areas of the HR Life Cycle

Significant HR business partner experience in an international context working in a multinational and multi-  cultural organisation

 

We can offer:

Monthly salary BDT 226,000 (Consolidated)

Transport allowance of Tk 8000.00 per month plus other benefits according to the organisation’s policy.
