Key Roles and Responsibilities:
• Monitor subnational incidents of political violence through review of national and sub-national media sources, NGO/CSO reports, police or other official reports, as well as through direct reports from local stakeholders
• Systematic collection and encoding of data, data-entry, and mapping of incidents of political violence in compliance with the requirements of the Violent Incidents Monitoring System (VIMS) database
• Systematic verification of incident reports by phone and/or through site visits

Education: Master’s degree in international development, economics, political science, or a relevant social science discipline

Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of demonstrated work experience in relevant development programs, including political party development, elections, political processes, human rights, peacebuilding, violence monitoring, etc.
• Demonstrated experience using quantitative data for research or programming and/or practical experience with data collection and encoding;
• Existing relationships and networks in the specific location in which the incumbent will be based (Barisal, Bogra, Chittagong, Khulna, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rangpur)
• Excellent speaking, writing and oral communication skills in English and Bangla
• Good command of basic data software (e.g. Excel, Access, MySQL)

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with violence monitoring and/or violent incidents monitoring systems
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to analyze prevailing electoral and political conditions
• Stakeholder management and relationship building skills at the local level
• Strong ability to multi-task and to handle complex programming challenges

Salary & Benefits: Competitive benefit package will be offered for desired candidate along with
other benefits as per policy. Contract is annually renewable.

Job Location: DI project office in Barisal, Bogra, Chittagong, Khulna, Mymensingh, Sylhet, or Rangpur (with frequent travel)

Company Information:
The Asia Foundation (the Foundation) Monitor in each of seven locations around the country – Barisal, Bogra, Chittagong, Khulna, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Rangpur – to join the USAID-and DfID-funded Strengthening Political Landscape in Bangladesh program (SPL), which works to build political party capacity and strengthen relationships between parties and constituents while reducing political violence. The Foundation is partnering with Democracy International (DI) to support objective two of the program, which confronts the challenge of political violence. Specifically, the Foundation will develop and implement a Violent Incidents Monitoring System that will monitor, track, and analyze instances of political violence across Bangladesh, and work to identify drivers of violence that can then be addressed through violence prevention activities and trainings.
